Mrs. Ethel J. Heyward, 78 years old of Newark, New Jersey, passed away on Saturday, May 2, 2020. Mrs. Ethel was born and raised in Ridgeland, South Carolina and during her high school years she moved in with her uncle and aunt in Charleston, South Carolina to finish out her school years. Mrs. Ethel graduated from Allen University in Columbia, South Carolina, where she received her degree in Education afterward she joined Peace Core and adventured in Sierra Leone Africa for two years helping others.
Mrs. Ethel moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to start living her life, little did she know her sister needed her. She packed up and moved to Newark, New Jersey, to be there for her family and started her teaching career and later on received her Master’s Degree in Education because that is where her heart and soul were to teach and be there for her family. Mrs. Ethel always had gentleness about her, soft spoken and a kind heart and the love she had for her family.
Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2020 at Grahamville Cemetery in Ridgeland, South Carolina at 11:00 am
Mrs. Ethel leaves to hold on to her memories are her siblings; Emily (James) Robinson, Josie (Leroy) Woods, Barbara, Frances Heyward, Rebecca Good, Harry Garrett and Edgar Heyward Tompson, Her brothers in law; Cleo Woods and Nelson Hicks, A God child; Jennifer also Ann and ChiNa was very special in her life. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
IN LIGHT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC: It is being recommended by the South Carolina Morticians Association Inc., to encourage families to have a graveside service with a small gathering of family and friends.
